What is Curriculum?

Curriculum refers to the content teachers deliver, while instruction is the method they use to teach it. A curriculum outlines clear learning targets, supported by resources and topics, to guide instruction in specific subject areas.

The School District of Marshfield follows a structured Curriculum Review Cycle to ensure our programs remain current and effective. In the 2014-2015 school year, we introduced a comprehensive Curriculum Review Guide, which places all academic programs into one of four phases of continuous evaluation and improvement.

During the review process, teams of teachers and administrators collaborate to develop learning targets and pacing guides aligned with state, national, and/or industry standards. This approach ensures consistency within grade-level teams and continuity across K-12 programs.

What is Instruction?

Instruction is how teachers bring the approved curriculum to life in the classroom.

While the curriculum provides a framework, each teacher chooses instructional methods that best meet the diverse needs of their students. Recognizing that teaching styles and learning styles vary, teachers tailor their approaches to support and engage every student, creating a dynamic and effective learning environment.

By experiencing a variety of instructional methods, students can engage with the material in ways that prepare them to be successful in college, careers, and in life.
