Marshfield Middle School Fall Athletic Information 2020

The Unified School District of Marshfield will be running an intramural program for the 2020-21 fall sports season for 7th and 8th grade students at Marshfield Middle School. The participation in sports has known health benefits, including promoting physical fitness and mental wellness. Sports provide social interaction which is necessary in these uncertain times. In addition, sports can help students to learn concepts of teamwork, leadership, work ethic, and integrity. Most importantly we want our student athletes to have fun and have a positive experience participating in their respective sports!

    SPORTS BEING OFFERED

Some of our sports will include modification to how they would normally look.

    • 7th and 8th Grade Football
    • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Volleyball
    • 7th and 8th Grade Girls Tennis
    • 7th and 8th Grade Boys Soccer
    • 7th and 8th Grade Co-ed Cross Country

Please note based on the current guidelines for social distancing we are unable to offer 6th, 7th and 8th grade Girls Swim.

    SEASON START/END DATES

All sports start and end dates will be the same. All of the fall intramural programs will run for 6 weeks.

    Cohort A student athletes:

                     Tuesday, September 8th - Thursday, October 15th

    Cohort B student athletes:

                     Wednesday, September 9th - Friday, October 16th

    PRACTICES

Student-athletes will practice after school on the days they are attending with their cohort group.  The student-athletes will be expected to complete a virtual workout prepared by their coaches on days they do not attend school.  No mixing of cohort groups will be allowed at this time. We may adjust the practice plan as guidelines and directions change from our local county health department, WIAA, or administration.  In-person practices will be limited to 1 ½ hours.

    GAMES

Student athletes will compete against each other within their respective cohort. The focus of the first three weeks will be basic fundamentals and skill development.  During the last three weeks we hope to offer competitive intrasquad contests within the student cohorts.  Coaches will be working to set up and organize these contests during their normal practice times with modifications to normal team rules as needed.  For example, depending on the number of athletes in a cohort group, maybe volleyball plays with 4 on 4 instead of the normal 6 on 6, etc.

HOW DO I GET SIGNED UP FOR ATHLETICS?

All Athletic Registrations for the 2020-21 school year will be taking place online, including the ability to upload physicals.  There are three pieces to the registration process.  A Concussion video, Athletic Department Video and the actual registration process.  Please note that the Concussion and Athletic Department Video are contained in the registration process.

If you are a returning user, High School or Middle School, please select the returning user link.  New users should select Middle School New User-Create Account to begin the new process.  Please do not create a new account if you already created one in the past.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Schalow at the Middle School Main office.

    FLEXIBILITY

In these uncertain times dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, flexibility is very important.  At any point in the season, we could go to all virtual practices.  We are moving forward with a plan to offer in-person Middle School Athletics to our students, but please realize that any point, this plan can change.
