Can I teach my Child from home, even though I'm not a teacher?
A lot of people are very unhappy with the quality of their local public schools, and for good reason a lot of them are really bad. This has resulted in a huge increase in home schooling in recent years. A lot of other parents are interested in this option but aren't really sure where to start. There biggest questions are usually about the legality of it and about what they should teach their child. A lot of parents aren't even sure if they can teach their child from home even though they aren't a teacher.
The answer is yes you can teach your child at home even though you aren't a teacher. Home schooling has been around for years and more and more parents are starting to do it. There is a very good chance that home schooling will become even more popular since a lot of people think the current public education system doesn't work. Just because you can teach your child at home doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea. There are quite a few things that you are going to want to keep in mind if you are thinking about going down this road.
The biggest issue is whether you are actually capable of teaching your child yourself. This is especially true of a high school student. How where you at high school math? If you're going to teach your child at home you are going to have to know how to do it. Certainly there are all kinds of resources to help you and for the most part you can learn right along with your child if you need a refresher. That being said if you couldn't really learn high school math the first time around what makes you think you will learn it the second time. If you are going to teach your child you are going to have to know how to do it, it is unreasonable to expect your child to learn it on his own with no help from you.
The other big issue with teaching your child at home is knowing what to teach. Some states have a prescribed curriculum that must be followed by anybody who wants a high school diploma. Other states offer no such advice. It is usually a good idea to follow the standard curriculum that is taught by schools in your area as far as you can. There are also lots of resources available online that can help you to prepare a curriculum for your child. The most important thing is to make sure that what you teach him is going to be accepted by colleges and employers. If you teach a whole bunch of obscure subjects and ignore the major ones like math and English your child is probably going to have problems when they move out into the real world.
